Warts

What are warts?
Warts are common skin-colored growths caused by the human papillomavirus. This virus causes a rapid growth of cells on the outer layer of your skin. They are extremely common, particularly in small children. Typically warts occur as flat or rough growths on fingers or toes but warts can occur anywhere on the body.
How do I get a wart?
Warts can be transmitted by direct contact that transmits the wart virus. Some patients are more susceptible to the wart virus and develop warts more readily than others.
What should I do if I get a wart?
Warts can be persistent, symptomatic and bothersome. Treatment options include topical medications (such as tazorac or aldara), liquid nitrogen therapy, oral cimetidine, and laser therapy for very recalcitrant warts.
